Steve Tarpinian was an accomplished swimmer in High School and a college swimmer at Stony Book University, where he made it to the NCAA Nationals and graduated with a Bachelors in Electrical Engineering.
In 1981, Steve competed in his first triathlon. Led by his passion for swimming, he stood out as a triathlete, competing in over 18 Ironman events and 17 consecutive Maui Xterra championships throughout his lifetime. He had a tremendous diversity of skills, but found his niche in swimming, triathlon, and coaching.
In 1993, when the Mighty Hamptons Olympic Triathlon, the first Olympic triathlon in the Northeast, was put up for sale, Steve purchased the race and his EventPower Multi Sport Company was born. Under Steve’s leadership, EventPower expanded from one triathlon to over 10 established Long Island triathlons. As a well-renowned swim coach, Steve developed a triathlon training team, wrote over 5 swim books, and produced several swim training videos.
A man of generous spirit and honorable character, Steve Tarpinian was an accomplished athlete, author, entrepreneur, empowering coach, and passionate human being, who touched the lives of thousands of people, nationally and internationally, through the sport of triathlon. According to Steve, “The Beauty is in the Balance” and he lived and taught this each and every day.
At the age of 54, we tragically lost Steve on March 15, 2015.
