The Steve Tarpinian Memorial Fund granted triathlon entries to 22 students throughout Long Island and Queens in 2017. These students participated as individuals and relay teams in several different triathlons throughout Long Island.
Richard Tarpinian and Jennifer Ross were able to attend The Northwell Health Tri by the Bay in June, 2017 produced by Race Awesome. They had the opportunity to meet a few of the students who participated in these races including Alessandra Parker, Daniel Raber, Luca Jimenez-Luci, Tai Wong, and Todd Warshawsky.
For many of these students, it was their very first triathlon. As the sun was coming up over the horizon, nerves were heightened as they prepared their transition setup. Richard Tarpinian, Steve Tarpinian’s father, was very moved by these students and the fact that this was their very first race…and that the Steve Tarpinian Memorial Fund helped them to get here. After meeting these students and hearing about their journeys to this particular race, both Rich and Jennifer knew that what they had set out to accomplish with the Memorial Fund was manifesting. It was allowing students the opportunity to ‘try’ triathlon and be inspired by the sport – something Steve Tarpinian would have been very proud of.
